Two small planes collided in mid-air off the Southe Califoia coast Friday and there hasn’t been word of any survivors, authorities said.

The planes collided at around 3:30 p.m. and apparently went into the water about two miles outside the Los Angeles harbor entrance, the U.S. Coast Guard and other officials said.

Three people were said to be aboard the two plane, officials said. Two men ages 61 and 81 were aboard one plane and a 72-year-old woman was aboard the other, according to Coast Guard Capt. Jeifer Williams said.

"They found both a partial tail number and then a second tail number," Los Angeles County lifeguard Capt. Ken Haskett said.

As darkness fell, about two dozen divers were on call to scour the area but the planes may be at the bottom in 80 to 90 feet of water, Haskett said.

The crash site was a quarter-mile south of the Angels Gate light. The harbor entrance was closed to traffic while the search continued.

A multi-agency operation involving boats, helicopters and divers are involved in the search, according to KTTV. The Long Beach Fire Department and Los Angeles Port Police are also involved in the search.
