Georgia police said early Saturday that a man suspected of killing at least five people in two shootings has been found dead in what appears to be a suicide.
Columbia County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Andy Shedd said the body of the suspect, previously identified as Wayne Anthony Hawes, was recovered from the suspect’s buing home, according to WRDW.
Shedd said the Friday night shootings stem from a domestic dispute that left three men and two females dead. WRDW reported that Hawes snapped when he leaed his wife was divorcing him.
Columbia County Coroner Veon Collins said three people were shot at one location in Appling, two of whom died at the scene; a third died at the hospital. He said two other people were shot and killed at another location about a mile away.
Collins said they are working to confirm their identities and all five bodies would be going to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab.
