REFUGEE BACKLASH? Merkel's party loses ground in German state vote

  • German Chancellor Angela Merkel gestures during a joint press conference with Prime Minister of Italy Matteo Renzi as part of a meeting at the chancellery in Berlin, Germany, Friday, Jan. 29, 2016. (AP Photo/Michael Sohn) BERLIN –  A nationalist, anti-immigration party performed strongly in a German state election Sunday in the region where Chancellor Angela Merkel has her political base, overtaking her conservatives to take second place amid discontent with her migrant policies, projections indicated. The three-year-old Alteative for Germany, or AfD, won 21 to 22 percent of votes in the election for the state legislature in Mecklenburg-Weste Pomerania, according to projections for ARD and ZDF television based on exit polls and partial counting. They put support for Merkel's Christian Democrats between 19 and 20 percent, their worst result yet in the state. The center-left Social Democrats, who led the outgoing state govement, were the strongest party with about 30-per, ...ادامه مطلب

  • 'TECHNICAL' ISSUES: Deal between US, Russia to halt Syria fighting stalls

  •   Secretary of State John Kerry said Sunday that negotiations have stalled between the United States and Russia to stop fighting in Syria between Russian-backed govement troops and U.S.-supported rebels. Kerry said at the G20 economic summit in China that the talks have stalled over some "technical" issues but they would resume Monday. Obama and Putin were also expected to meet Monday. The countries have tried for weeks to broker a cease-fire between Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's govement and moderate rebels in an effort to expand access and humanitarian aid for the hundreds of thousands of civilians caught in the crossfire. The strategy has hinged on an unlikely U.S.-Russian military partnership alligned against extremist groups operating in Syria. But the two powers have conflicting views about who fits in that category, beyond ISIS and Al Qaeda. "An awful lot of technical things have been worked out, a lot of things are clear, but there still remain, as I say, a co, ...ادامه مطلب

  • WORST FAR FROM OVER? Hermine expected to regain strength, hit coast

  •   DEKLE BEACH, Fla. –  The first hurricane to hit Florida in more than a decade wiped away beachside buildings and toppled trees onto homes Friday before plowing inland on a path that could send it rolling up the densely populated East Coast with heavy rain, high winds and flooding. Hermine quickly weakened to a tropical storm and was spinning inland along the North Carolina coast late Friday. But the National Hurricane Center predicted it would regain hurricane strength late in the weekend after emerging over the Atlantic Ocean. The system could then lash coastal areas as far north as Connecticut and Rhode Island through Labor Day. "Anyone along the U.S. East Coast needs to be paying close attention this weekend," said Dennis Feltgen, a spokesman for the National Hurricane Center. In Florida, Hermine's main impact came in the form of power outages and damage from storm surges. A homeless man south of Gainesville died when a tree fell on him, Gov. Rick Scott said. • CUTTING TERROR TALK UK to isolate known jihadists in prison

  •   British prisons have become alarmingly fertile breeding grounds for terrorism, according to new govement research that supports the long and widely held beliefs that UK lockups too often double as jihadi training camps. Many of the terror attacks that have plagued Europe in recent years bear a common, chilling hallmark: They were carried out by attackers who went into prison as petty criminals and emerged as hardened terrorists. Officials armed with sobering new research now want to take steps to isolate known jihadists from the general prison population in a bid to stop recruitment. “We cannot have a situation where we have extremist prisoners influencing others who are vulnerable to those messages,” said Justice Minister Liz Truss. The case of radical firebrand Anjem Choudary, who was recently sentenced to 10 years in prison for supporting ISIS after years of openly espousing Islamist hate, has brought increased attention to the issue. Charismatic and committed jihadi, ...ادامه مطلب

  • DOCUMENT DROP FBI files: Clinton claimed ignorance on classification

  •   Several dozen pages of documents released Friday from the FBI’s Hillary Clinton email probe show the former secretary of state repeatedly claimed to have little training or understanding about the classification process – despite leading the department that handled such information on a regular basis and having a security clearance.   The document dump also revealed the gaps that remain in the record. Not only were numerous sections – and entire pages – redacted, but the files showed the FBI could not obtain 13 Clinton mobile devices that may have been used to send emails from her personal email address, in addition to two iPads. And they showed Clinton claiming she could not recall numerous details. But perhaps most striking were Clinton’s repeated statements regarding her grasp of the classification process. In response to the release, GOP Chairman Reince Priebus said Clinton’s claims suggest she either is “incompetent” or “lied.”   CLICK TO READ THE D,document drop box, document drop-off locations, document drop box outdoor, document drop off location hyderabad, document drop sage crm, document drop list, document drop event, document drop down menu, document drop off, document dropbox ipad ...ادامه مطلب

  • MORE PLAYERS PROTEST Kap, teammate kneel during anthem, another sits

  •   Colin Kaepeick and San Francisco 49ers safety Eric Reid kneeled during the national anthem Thursday night, continuing the quarterback's preseason protest of American racial injustice and minority oppression. Kaepeick and Reid dropped to one knee while a naval officer sang "The Star-Spangled Banner" and dozens of military members unfurled an oversized flag at the Chargers' Qualcomm Stadium. Kaepeick and Reid received scattered boos when they dropped to a knee amid a crowd of teammates, but the protest was otherwise unremarked by the San Diego crowd. The 49ers' visit coincided with the annual Salute to the Military preseason game for the Chargers, who have strong fan support in their city's extensive armed forces community. Kaepeick got much heavier boos when he took the field to start the game for the 49ers and immediately led them on a 16-play, 85-yard touchdown drive. The veteran quarterback is attempting to regain the starting job that he lost last season, and he li, ...ادامه مطلب

  • LAST-MINUTE CHANGE Trump revised speech after Mexican leader's tweet

  •   As Donald Trump arrived in Phoenix late Wednesday, fresh from a visit to Mexico City’s presidential palace, he had in his hands a big immigration speech that omitted the usual line that Mexico would have to pay for his proposed wall along the U.S. southe border. Just after landing, though, Mr. Trump discovered that Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto had tweeted that he had told the Republican presidential nominee during their private meeting earlier that day that his country would refuse to pay for the wall. Mr. Trump was peeved that Mr. Peña Nieto had gone public with the fact that the Mexican president had broken what Mr. Trump considered a deal to keep the question of paying for the wall off the table at their initial meeting. So Mr. Trump hurriedly inserted a new sentence in his immigration speech, and he soon boomed out from the podium his traditional declaration that the wall would be paid for by Mexico—adding, “They don’t know it yet but they’re g,last minute change, last minute changes synonym, last minute change flight, last minute change booking, last minute change flight date, last minute change of plans, last minute changes quotes, last minute change name, last minute change currency, last minute changes to a will ...ادامه مطلب

  • ABRUPT REVERSAL Full Clinton calendar to be released by Election Day

  •   The State Department agreed Thursday to tu over all the planning schedules from Hillary Clinton's time serving as secretary of state to The Associated Press by mid-October in an abrupt reversal from U.S. govement lawyers' waing last week that hundreds of pages would not be released until after the presidential election. The decision will make available all of Clinton's minute-by-minute schedules before the presidential election. Those planning documents offer a detailed look at Clinton's daily routine during her four-year tenure as secretary of state between 2009 and 2013. The State Department provided the AP some of the Democratic presidential nominee's official calendars from her time at the department, but some of those calendars had been edited after her events and, in some cases, names of those who met with her had been omitted. The department has so far released about half of her more complete daily schedules. "As stated in today’s court filing, the Depart, ...ادامه مطلب

  • 'LIFE-THREATENING SITUATION' Gulf Coast braces for impact as Hurricane Hermine strengthens

  •   People from the Florida Panhandle down to the Tampa area braced Thursday for Hurricane Hermine, as it lashes the area with strong winds and potentially dangerous storm surge. The National Hurricane Center said the storm's winds ratched up from 75 mph in the afteoon to 80 mph by evening as the former tropical storm gained new fury. Hermine was set to make landfall late Thursday or early Friday, forecasters said. A hurricane waing was in effect for Florida's Big Bend from the Suwannee River to Mexico Beach. And on the East Coast, a tropical storm waing was issued for an area that extended from Marineland, Florida, northward to the South Santee River in South Carolina. [embedded content] Hermine marked part of a one-two punch of severe storms hitting the U.S. as Tropical Storm Madeline pummeled shorelines of Hawaii's Big Island. The storm was downgraded from hurricane strength on Wednesday but still packed winds reaching 50 mph on Thursday as it passed by the island., ...ادامه مطلب

  • TODD STARNES Valedictorians so scary that school may not honor them

  • (REUTERS/Brian Snyder) A public school district near Louisville, Kentucky has come down with a bad case of what I call “Participation Trophy Syndrome” – or PTS. The Greater Clark County School Board in Jeffersonville, Indiana, is considering a plan to eliminate the valedictorian system because it creates “unhealthy competition,” according to Supt. Andrew Melin. Click here to join Todd’s American Dispatch: a must-read for Conservatives! Unhealthy competition? Is he serious? Did a kid suffer a concussion while trying to parse a participle? “When students are competing for the Val and the Sal, they’re trying to find ways to maneuver through the system to try and get the best grades they can possibly get, as opposed to taking the course work that’s truly in their own best interest,” Supt. Melin told television station WHAS. For you folks living in a commune in Berkeley, the “Val” is the valedictorian and the “Sal” is the salutatorian. • BIAS ALERT NY Times aligns Trump with sext-crazed Weiner

  •   The New York Times is so disgusted with Anthony Weiner that it has deployed the Paper of Record's version of the nuclear option: equating him to Donald Trump. Outside of the fact that both hail from New York, the comparison may seem like a stretch. But following revelations the former Democratic congressman and husband of Hillary Clinton's top aide sexted raunchy selfies as his little boy lay next to him, columnist Frank Bruni sought to smear Trump with sco eaed by Weiner.   The food critic-tued-pundit drew the oddball analogy in an Aug. 30 column titled, "Donald Trump's Irredeemable Twin." Bruni's colleagues in the Old Gray Lady's opinion section also let slip their election stances with such titles as "The Duplicity of Donald Trump," "Donald Trump's Bigotry," and "Pariahs for Donald Trump." Bruni himself penned a July column titled, “The Citrusy Mystery of Trump’s Hair.” But in the more recent piece, Bruni managed to compare the GOP presidential nominee to ser, ...ادامه مطلب

  • BLM ‘DISAPPOINTED’ Slams Dems after memos reveal ‘pacifying’ tactics

  •   Black Lives Matter slammed the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee after a memo leaked late Wednesday seemed to show the group carefully coaching candidates on how to avoid angering the "radical" activists.  The November 2015 memo included tips like: Do not offer “support for concrete policy positions;” be sure to "lead from behind;" stick to "small" meetings; and avoid mentioning terms like "black-on-black crime."  On its Facebook page, BLM said officials should "stop pacifying" them.  “We are disappointed at the DCCC’s placating response to our demand to value all Black life. Black communities deserve to be heard, not handled. People are dying,” the organization said, in response to the leaked document.  The leaked files were posted along with other Democratic documents by Guccifer 2.0, a hacker of unknown origin who the U.S. says could be working out of Russia and is intent on disrupting the U.S. presidential election. • ‘REBUILD MILITARY’ Trump tells vets he’ll equip soldiers, defend the border

  •   Donald Trump vowed Thursday to “rebuild our depleted military” and ensure America’s soldiers are the best-equipped in the world as he addressed the American Legion's annual convention – and sought to rebut Hillary Clinton’s suggestion to the same crowd a day earlier that he doesn’t believe America is “exceptional.” Kicking off the address in Cincinnati, Ohio, by invoking his campaign slogan, “America First,” Trump tried to settle any doubts about his support for the Armed Forces. He called for a state-of-the-art missile defense, a “total reform” of the Veterans Affairs Department and a policy of “peace through strength.” “Nobody will be able to compete with us,” Trump said. His Democratic opponent a day earlier sought to deliver a hawkish message, calling the U.S. an “exceptional nation” and accusing Trump of thinking that approach is "insulting to the rest of the world." In his address, Trump renewed his call for an end to the “era of na, ...ادامه مطلب
