  • BIAS ALERT NY Times aligns Trump with sext-crazed Weiner

  •   The New York Times is so disgusted with Anthony Weiner that it has deployed the Paper of Record's version of the nuclear option: equating him to Donald Trump. Outside of the fact that both hail from New York, the comparison may seem like a stretch. But following revelations the former Democratic congressman and husband of Hillary Clinton's top aide sexted raunchy selfies as his little boy lay next to him, columnist Frank Bruni sought to smear Trump with sco eaed by Weiner.   The food critic-tued-pundit drew the oddball analogy in an Aug. 30 column titled, "Donald Trump's Irredeemable Twin." Bruni's colleagues in the Old Gray Lady's opinion section also let slip their election stances with such titles as "The Duplicity of Donald Trump," "Donald Trump's Bigotry," and "Pariahs for Donald Trump." Bruni himself penned a July column titled, “The Citrusy Mystery of Trump’s Hair.” But in the more recent piece, Bruni managed to compare the GOP presidential nominee to ser, ...ادامه مطلب

  • SURVIVING TOUGH RACES Wasserman Schultz, Rubio win primaries in Florida

  •   Florida Democratic Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz on Tuesday survived a tough primary challenge -- defeating a persistent, first-time challenger and the controversy that ended her leadership of the Democratic National Committee. The Associated Press projected the win for Wasserman Schultz shortly after polls closed. In the state’s closely-watched Senate primaries, Republican Sen. Marco Rubio and Democratic Rep. Patrick Murphy won their respective Florida Senate primaries -- setting up a high-profile November contest that will help determine whether Democrats can retake control of the Senate. Wasserman Schultz is expected to win a sixth term in November in the state’s Democratic-leaning 23rd Congressional District. Her race against law professor Tim Canova gained national attention when Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Beie Sanders accused Wasserman Schultz, as DNC chairwoman, of rigging the primary for front-running Hillary Clinton. Sanders later endorsed Canova, w, ...ادامه مطلب

  • BIAS ALERT Anchor tough on Clinton $, but mum on own donations

  •   ABC newsman George Stephanopoulos gave Hillary Clinton’s campaign manager a grueling grilling over the scandal-scarred Clinton Foundation’s future on Sunday. But Stephanopoulos, a former aide to President Bill Clinton, must have forgotten to disclose his own five-figure donations to the organization. Clinton has said if she is elected president, the controversial family foundation will cease taking foreign donations, but other media outlets, including the Boston Globe and the liberal Huffington Post, have called for it to be shut down altogether. Speaking to campaign manager Robby Mook, Stephanopoulos wondered if the post-election pledge was not tantamount to admitting Clinton was wrong to take previous donations. “You announced this week that the foundation would no longer take contributions from foreign govements or corporations, if Secretary Clinton wins the White Ho,bias alert, bias alert fox news, fox bias alert, fox news bias alert irony, amber alert bias ...ادامه مطلب

  • SENSING AN OPENING? Trump looks to capitalize on Clinton's tough week

  •   Donald Trump said Saturday that he’s filled all of the speaker slots for the fast-approaching Republican National Convention -- trying to end talk about key GOP figures distance themselves for him and the event and capitalize on rival Hillary Clinton’s bad week. Trump, the presumptive GOP presidential nominee, said on Twitter that he’ll announce the lineup on Wednesday and that he has “a long waiting list of those that want to speak.” To be sure, Trump critics have for weeks kept a running tally of top Republicans not attending the four-day convention in Cleveland that starts July 18 -- from such standard-bearers as former President George W. Bush to New Hampshire Sen. Kelly Ayotte, who is in a tough re-election campaign. Speaking on the convention stage is considered a coveted opportunity for politicians, especially for up-and-coming ones to raise their national profile. Barack Obama’s keynote address at the 2004 Democratic convention, for example, helped him ascend from a freshman Illinois senator to president. Neither Trump nor Clinton, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, have scheduled campaign events over the Fourth of July weekend, amid speculation that Clinton will speak to the FBI about the agency’s investigation into her use of a private email server while secretary of state. The interview is expected to be a final step in the probe, which has cast a cloud over Clinton’s campaign. 2016 Election Headquarters The latest headlines on the 2016 elections from the biggest name in politics. See Latest Coverage → Speculation about an agency under the Obama administration conducting an unbiased probe intensified this week when Clinton’s husband, former President Bill Clinton, met privately with Attoey General Loretta Lynch, who can either accept or reject the recommendations from career prosecutors and the FBI director on whether to bring charges in the case. • Navy probe finds weak leadership, lack of 'warfighting toughness' led to capture of 10 US sailors by Iranians

  •   The Navy's top officer said Thursday the performance of 10 of his sailors leading up to and following their capture by Iranian forces in January did not meet the high standards expected of them, as he announced the long-awaited findings of a Navy investigation. "Those sailors clearly know our actions on that day in January, and this incident did not live up to our expectations of our Navy," Admiral John Richardson told reporters. Related Image Expand / Contract This picture released by the Iranian state-run IRIB News Agency shows the detention of U.S. Navy sailors in January. (Sepahnews via AP) One of Richardson's top deputies said some of the sailors violated the longstanding "code of conduct" that requires all service members to "make no oral or written statements disloyal to my country," among its six articles. According to the report, some of the Navy sailors gave up their passwords to their laptops, cellphones and sensitive data about their ships to their Iranian captors. "The investigation also found that some crew members did not meet code of conduct standards while in custody," Vice Admiral Chris Aquilino, Deputy for Operations, Plans and Strategy, said. Aquilino added that the rules of engagement dealing with Iranian forces in the Persian Gulf "may not have been understood by the crews." [embedded content] Among the findings of the investigation: The crews failed to report they were off track after beginning their transit from Kuwait to Bahrain four hours behind schedule. To make up the time, the two Navy patrol boats decided to take a shortcut, taking them inside Iranian territorial waters near Farsi Island, centrally located in the Persian Gulf. Richardson said that Iran violated inteational law in its treatment of his sailors by taking them at gunpoint. "The investigation concluded that Iran violated inteational law by impeding the boats' innocent passage transit, and they violated sovereign immunity by boarding, searching and seizing the, ...ادامه مطلب

  • ALTERED RECORDS? VA hospital accused of falsifying patient wait times

  •   A Houston VA hospital altered records to hide lengthy patient waiting lists even as a national scandal regarding treatment of veterans was unfolding, a federal watchdog charged in a scathing report released this week. Officials at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center in Houston and its associated clinics altered records to make it appear that hundreds of appointments canceled by staff were really called off by patients, according to the VA's Office of Inspector General. The federal audit determined the changes were made to hide unacceptable wait times as VA hospitals around the country were under fire for neglecting patients. "As a result, VHA’s recorded wait times did not reflect the actual wait experienced by the veterans and the wait time remained unreliable and understated," the report noted. Related Image Expand / Contract The center has an annual budge of $912 million and cares for more than 109,000 veterans. (HoustonVA.gov) The audit was performed after the IG received an anonymous tip saying officials instructed staff to incorrectly record cancellations. Records showed 223 appointments were incorrectly recorded as patient cancellations between July 2014 and June 2015. The report did not point the finger at the facility's top leadership. It determined that two previous scheduling supervisors and a current director of two affiliated clinics "instructed staff to incorrectly record cancellations as canceled by the patient." Of the 223 cancellations, 94 appointments were put off an average of 81 days. But because the cancellations were improperly attributed to patients, no delays or backlog was evident in the center's electronic scheduling system, according to the review. Most damning about the report is that the improper behavior followed a stunning national review that revealed widespread corruption at VA facilities across the nation -- from rejected medical claims to delays in treatment and cover-ups by high-level officials.
