  • LAST-MINUTE CHANGE Trump revised speech after Mexican leader's tweet

  •   As Donald Trump arrived in Phoenix late Wednesday, fresh from a visit to Mexico City’s presidential palace, he had in his hands a big immigration speech that omitted the usual line that Mexico would have to pay for his proposed wall along the U.S. southe border. Just after landing, though, Mr. Trump discovered that Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto had tweeted that he had told the Republican presidential nominee during their private meeting earlier that day that his country would refuse to pay for the wall. Mr. Trump was peeved that Mr. Peña Nieto had gone public with the fact that the Mexican president had broken what Mr. Trump considered a deal to keep the question of paying for the wall off the table at their initial meeting. So Mr. Trump hurriedly inserted a new sentence in his immigration speech, and he soon boomed out from the podium his traditional declaration that the wall would be paid for by Mexico—adding, “They don’t know it yet but they’re g,last minute change, last minute changes synonym, last minute change flight, last minute change booking, last minute change flight date, last minute change of plans, last minute changes quotes, last minute change name, last minute change currency, last minute changes to a will ...ادامه مطلب

  • BIAS ALERT NY Times aligns Trump with sext-crazed Weiner

  •   The New York Times is so disgusted with Anthony Weiner that it has deployed the Paper of Record's version of the nuclear option: equating him to Donald Trump. Outside of the fact that both hail from New York, the comparison may seem like a stretch. But following revelations the former Democratic congressman and husband of Hillary Clinton's top aide sexted raunchy selfies as his little boy lay next to him, columnist Frank Bruni sought to smear Trump with sco eaed by Weiner.   The food critic-tued-pundit drew the oddball analogy in an Aug. 30 column titled, "Donald Trump's Irredeemable Twin." Bruni's colleagues in the Old Gray Lady's opinion section also let slip their election stances with such titles as "The Duplicity of Donald Trump," "Donald Trump's Bigotry," and "Pariahs for Donald Trump." Bruni himself penned a July column titled, “The Citrusy Mystery of Trump’s Hair.” But in the more recent piece, Bruni managed to compare the GOP presidential nominee to ser, ...ادامه مطلب

  • SURVIVING TOUGH RACES Wasserman Schultz, Rubio win primaries in Florida

  •   Florida Democratic Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz on Tuesday survived a tough primary challenge -- defeating a persistent, first-time challenger and the controversy that ended her leadership of the Democratic National Committee. The Associated Press projected the win for Wasserman Schultz shortly after polls closed. In the state’s closely-watched Senate primaries, Republican Sen. Marco Rubio and Democratic Rep. Patrick Murphy won their respective Florida Senate primaries -- setting up a high-profile November contest that will help determine whether Democrats can retake control of the Senate. Wasserman Schultz is expected to win a sixth term in November in the state’s Democratic-leaning 23rd Congressional District. Her race against law professor Tim Canova gained national attention when Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Beie Sanders accused Wasserman Schultz, as DNC chairwoman, of rigging the primary for front-running Hillary Clinton. Sanders later endorsed Canova, w, ...ادامه مطلب

  • LAST STAND? High-profile incumbents face primary voters

  •   Debbie Wasserman Schultz is fighting Tuesday to hold onto her House seat after losing her post atop the Democratic National Committee last month over a leaked email scandal, amid waings from her primary challenger that she’s taken her base “for granted.” First-time candidate Tim Canova, a law professor backed by Beie Sanders, is trying to unseat the incumbent Tuesday, in one of several big end-of-the-season primaries. Canova’s longshot bid to upset Wasserman Schultz got a huge boost this spring when Sanders endorsed him and even hinted at coming to Florida to campaign for him. He benefited again when Wasserman Schultz was caught up in the leak of emails showing top DNC officials criticizing and discussing ways to undermine Sanders’ presidential primary campaign against Hillary Clinton. In the end, Sanders never did show up to stump for Canova. But the candidate was able to mount a considerable campaign on his own, amassing $3.8 million to advertise across south , ...ادامه مطلب

  •   ABC newsman George Stephanopoulos gave Hillary Clinton’s campaign manager a grueling grilling over the scandal-scarred Clinton Foundation’s future on Sunday. But Stephanopoulos, a former aide to President Bill Clinton, must have forgotten to disclose his own five-figure donations to the organization. Clinton has said if she is elected president, the controversial family foundation will cease taking foreign donations, but other media outlets, including the Boston Globe and the liberal Huffington Post, have called for it to be shut down altogether. Speaking to campaign manager Robby Mook, Stephanopoulos wondered if the post-election pledge was not tantamount to admitting Clinton was wrong to take previous donations. “You announced this week that the foundation would no longer take contributions from foreign govements or corporations, if Secretary Clinton wins the White Ho,bias alert, bias alert fox news, fox bias alert, fox news bias alert irony, amber alert bias ...ادامه مطلب

Trump delivered his economic address early Monday afteoon in Detroit, touting a plan he called a "night-and-day-contrast" with the “job-killing, tax-raising, poverty-inducing Obama-Clinton agenda.”  Clinton retued fire hours later during a rally in St. Petersburg, Fla., saying her GOP rival has simply hired advisers trying to “make his old, tired ideas sound new.” “His tax plans will give super big tax breaks to large corporations and the really wealthy,” she said. "He wants to repackage trickle-down economics." Clinton said economists have already waed Trump’s policies “would throw us into recession.” The sparks mark an abrupt retu to the economy on the campaign trail, after a post-convention week during which Trump was caught up in controversies that had little to do with policy. 2016 Election Headquarters The latest headlines on the 2016 elections from the biggest name in politics. • NEVER RESEARCHED? Medical benefits of dental floss unproven

  •   It's one of the most universal recommendations in all of public health: Floss daily to prevent gum disease and cavities. Except there's little proof that flossing works. Still, the federal govement, dental organizations and manufacturers of floss have pushed the practice for decades. Dentists provide samples to their patients; the American Dental Association insists on its website that, "Flossing is an essential part of taking care of your teeth and gums." The federal govement has recommended flossing since 1979, first in a surgeon general's report and later in the Dietary Guidelines for Americans issued every five years. The guidelines must be based on scientific evidence, under the law. Last year, the Associated Press asked the departments of Health and Human Services and Agriculture for their evidence, and followed up with written requests under the Freedom of Information Act. When the federal govement issued its latest dietary guidelines this year, the flossing recommendation had been removed, without notice. In a letter to the AP, the govement acknowledged the effectiveness of flossing had never been researched, as required. More on this... Why are we more inclined to brush than to floss? Never floss? You're not alone ... and that's bad news 14 surprising foods for brighter smiles The AP looked at the most rigorous research conducted over the past decade, focusing on 25 studies that generally compared the use of a toothbrush with the combination of toothbrushes and floss. The findings? The evidence for flossing is "weak, very unreliable," of "very low" quality, and carries "a moderate to large potential for bias." "The majority of available studies fail to demonstrate that flossing is generally effective in plaque removal," said one review conducted last year. Another 2015 review cites "inconsistent/weak evidence" for flossing and a "lack of efficacy." One study review in 2011 did credit floss with a slight reduction in gum inflammation — which , ...ادامه مطلب
