  • HORROR STORY Elizabeth Smart says porn made kidnap ordeal worse

  • Elizabeth Smart in Sandy, Utah, in 2015. (AP Photo/Rick Bowmer) SALT LAKE CITY –  Kidnapping survivor Elizabeth Smart says poography led to her captor raping her more than he already did in the nine months she was held. Smart made the remarks in a video posted Friday by Fight the New Drug, an anti-poography advocacy group. Smart, who was taken from her Salt Lake City home in 2002 at the age of 14, recounts how Brian David Mitchell showed her magazines containing hardcore poography. She says he then wanted to mimic what he saw. Smart says she cannot say that looking at poography caused Mitchell to kidnap her but that "poography made my living hell worse." Smart describes herself as an advocate against abuse and poography. She has a book on self-empowerment scheduled for release in spring 2017. • BIAS ALERT Wash Post buries Iran story despite reporter's presence

  •   The State Department admitted Thursday it postponed a $400 million payment to Iran in January until a group of Americans held in the country was released -- but not all media outlets apparently saw it as a top story. State Department spokesman John Kirby said Thursday that the negotiations to retu the money – originally from a 1979 failed military equipment deal made between Iran and the U.S. – were conducted separately from negotiations to free the four prisoners. However, Kirby also said that the U.S. withheld the cash delivery until Iran made good on its promise to release the prisoners on January 17. The story was given prominence on most news sites and in newspapers. The New York Times, for example, put the story on its front page. However, The Washington Post buried the story on page A-10, undeeath a column about the National Park Service, according to NewsBuster, bias alert, bias alert fox news, fox bias alert, fox news bias alert irony, amber alert bias ...ادامه مطلب

  • BIAS ALERT NYT Manafort story omits Clinton's Moscow speech

  •   The New York Times published an extensive report Monday examining Donald Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort’s work for a pro-Russian party in Ukraine – but despite pointing to it as a “rising issue” in the presidential campaign, glossed over its own past reporting on the Clintons’ Russian connections. The latest article detailed ledgers purportedly showing more than $12 million earmarked for Manafort by the pro-Russian party. According to the Times, investigators claim they were part of an illicit off-the-books operation, though Manafort denies ever getting such payments. The Times noted that Manafort’s “involvement with moneyed interests in Russia and Ukraine” has been reported before – but said American relationships there have emerged as a “rising issue” in the presidential campaign. Yet the article focused on Trump and Manafort’s ties, without harkening back to another extensive Times report in April 2015 on, among other details, a $500,000 paym, bias alert, bias alert fox news, fox bias alert, fox news bias alert irony, amber alert bias ...ادامه مطلب

  • DNC TOP STORY IRS looking at 'pay-to-play' Clinton Foundation claims

  •   The IRS confirmed in a letter it is looking into claims of “pay-to-play” practices at the Clinton Foundation, after dozens of Republican lawmakers requested a review of potential “criminal conduct” at the organization founded by the family at the center of this week’s Democratic National Convention.   Commissioner John Koskinen wrote in a July 22 letter to Republican Rep. Marsha Blackbu that the issue has been “forwarded” to the IRS “Exempt Organizations Examinations” program in Dallas. “This program considers all referrals and will send you a separate acknowledgement letter when it receives your information,” he wrote, in a letter first reported by The Daily Caller. It’s unclear whether the agency might take any further action. The letter noted that, under the law, they could not reveal “any actions we may take on this information.”  A Clinton Foundation source, though, rejected reporting that the letter indicates an investigation.   “Nowhere does this letter say that there’s an investigation, or that the IRS is even considering an investigation,” the source said.  2016 Election Headquarters The latest headlines on the 2016 elections from the biggest name in politics. Due to federal privacy protections, the IRS cannot comment on individual taxpayers or organizations.” The request for an examination came in a July 15 letter from 64 House Republicans including Tennessee Rep. Blackbu. In the run-up to the Democratic convention where Hillary Clinton was nominated for president Tuesday, they asked the FBI, IRS and Federal Trade Commission to examine the dealings of the foundation.  ", ...ادامه مطلب

  • MAKING HISTORY: Hillary Clinton wins Democratic presidential nomination, becomes first woman to top major party ballot

  •   PHILADELPHIA –  Hillary Clinton took a historic step closer Tuesday to fulfilling her dream of shattering what she once called “that highest, hardest glass ceiling” when Democratic delegates at the party's national convention in Philadelphia officially nominated her as their candidate for president – making the former first lady, U.S. senator and secretary of state the first woman to top a major party presidential ticket. South Dakota’s delegation put her over the top in the tally, but it was ex-primary foe Beie Sanders who closed out the roll call and made her nomination official after his home state of Vermont cast its votes. “I move that Hillary Clinton be selected as the nominee of the Democratic Party for president of the United States,” Sanders said, as the crowd erupted in cheers and waved Clinton signs. The nomination was affirmed by acclamation moments later; the final delegate tally was 2,842-1,865.   The high-profile show of unity on the floor, at a convention marked from the start by discord, followed speculation about what role Sanders might play in formally anointing Clinton the nominee. The night before, the Vermont senator tried to restore order in the hall by urging his supporters – many of whom booed Monday night at the mere mention of Clinton’s name – to get behind her campaign. Those supporters loudly cheered and chanted his name as Sanders was put in for nomination Tuesday afteoon. 2016 Election Headquarters The latest headlines on the 2016 elections from the biggest name in politics. • DNC TOP STORY 'Dirty' politics takes on new meaning in Philadelphia

  •   PHILADELPHIA –  Tens of thousands of politicians, delegates, reporters and political junkies who have come to this sprawling East Coast city -- amid a relentless heat wave -- to attend the Democratic National Convention are being greeted with traffic gridlock, subway snafus and venues without food or water and piled high with trash.  The headaches surrounding the logistics of the event have served to mar an already turbulent kick-off marked by rowdy protests. The early arrivers Tuesday at the downtown convention center where the events are being held were met by work crews furiously trying to clean up trash and leftover food including chicken fingers and French fries. On Sunday night, at a glitzy reception overlooking the city skyline, the conversations among Washington Democrats and K Street lobbyists were as much about convention-related problems as they were about politics. “Every convention has its memorable problems, but this is a lot,” one lobbyist said. On Monday, the opening night of the four-day event, the concession stands at the Wells Fargo Center were essentially sold out of water and food before the prime-time speeches even started. 2016 Election Headquarters The latest headlines on the 2016 elections from the biggest name in politics. • DNC TOP STORY Expert says trail points to Russia behind email hack

  •   A potential Russian connection to the politically explosive hack of Democratic National Committee files is becoming clearer, with a former senior intelligence official who ran computer security for the Defense Intelligence Agency telling Fox News the hackers left behind evidence on the servers that points to sophisticated techniques associated with the country. The trail of evidence on the DNC servers includes malicious code used to steal emails and documents, according to Bob Gourley, co-founder and partner at strategic consulting firm Cognitio and former chief technology officer (CTO) at the DIA. “Forensic evidence points pretty clearly to a very sophisticated nation state,” he said. “This is a well-resourced adversary. Specifically, they are using the same tools and techniques previously associated with Russia.” Gourley said they used a recently established web domain, registered to a non-existent entity, to steal the data, another signature of Russian-backed hackers. He said nothing about the attack points to an individual hacker. Aside from the physical evidence linking to Russia, Gourley said the timing also suggests a political motivation. Foreign hackers would want to steal data to understand the policies of a potential Democratic president, but if that were the only motivation, there would no reason to release the files on the eve of the convention. Other sources familiar with the DNC email dump also told Fox News the communications likely were seized in a hacking operation with ties to the Russian govement.  2016 Election Headquarters The latest headlines on the 2016 elections from the biggest name in politics. • NOT-SO-SWIFT TAYLOR? FoxNews.com staffer: No 'Love Story' with pop star

  • CAST OF BERKS YOUTH THEATRE PRODUCTION OF "BYE BYE BIRDIE," LEFT TO RIGHT: TAYLOR SWIFT, CODY DERESPINA, CHRIS BROSSMAN, AND JESSICA FLAMHOLZ (DIANE STASKOWSKI/READING EAGLE) I’m Team Calvin. Before Taylor Swift allegedly tried undercutting Scottish DJ Calvin Harris by leaking her involvement in his new single, an 11-year-old pre-fame Taylor was trying to undercut another love interest. Me. A few things to clarify here: The year was 2001. I was 14 at the time and Swift did not like me in the least (nor I her), but the character she played in a Berks Youth Theater version of “Bye Bye Birdie” was in love with the character I played. But off stage, Swift and my “relationship” could not have been more different than our fictional alter egos, Kim MacAfee and Conrad Birdie. She was the established star of the group and I was a newcomer, spurred to do the play simply because it seemed like a fun thing. However, (pardon the ego), I was quite good at my role and Swift didn’t seem to enjoy sharing the spotlight. We barely if ever talked when we weren’t reading lines that required our interaction and, after one performance, Swift ripped down a series of pictures of me, crumpled them and threw them against a wall. In all faiess, she was an ambitious young girl who was destined to go far and I was a brash intruder into her world. It’s understandable we didn’t get along. However, it doesn’t seem as if Swift has changed all that much from her days of ripping down my photos. Only now, she’s become famous for ripping her various ex-boyfriends in songs after their breakups. So don’t feel too bad, Calvin. I’ve been there.
