COURTS' LEFT TURN Federal judge picks change legal landscape, ensure Obama's legacy

  •   President Obama may be struggling to tilt the balance of the Supreme Court – but that doesn’t mean he hasn’t already made his mark on the bench. The president, over the course of his two terms, has appointed hundreds of justices to the lower federal courts, leading to a majority of appeals courts now dominated by Democratic picks. While those nomination battles aren’t nearly as high-profile as they are for the high court, the impact of the appointments is just as pronounced.   “It's often overlooked, but nominees to the lower courts ... are often one of the most important legacies a president leaves behind,” said Elizabeth Wydra, president of the Constitutional Accountability Center. The Fourth Circuit, which sits just one level below the Supreme Court and is headquartered in Richmond, Va., is a prime example. Previously viewed as one of the most conservative appellate courts in the country, it has drifted significantly to the left, with Democratic appointees now, courtship, courts, courtesy, courts plus, courts va,courtside, courtside films, courtship definition, courtside grill, courtship of eddies father ...ادامه مطلب

  • DEVELOPING: FBI BOSS ADMITS HILLARY EMAIL CLAIMS 'NOT TRUE' GOP lawmakers grill FBI director on Clinton's 'no classified emails' denial

  •   FBI Director James Comey testified Thursday that Hillary Clinton’s email practices put America’s secrets at risk, her public claims on the matter were “not true” and her actions constituted the “definition of carelessness” – yet staunchly defended the bureau’s decision not to pursue charges, vexing Republicans who suggested a “double standard” was being applied. Comey delivered his most expansive explanation to date at the House oversight committee hearing on Capitol Hill. He repeated his claim that “no reasonable prosecutor would bring this case,” suggesting they did not have evidence Clinton knew she was doing anything wrong. He also made clear that, “We have no basis to conclude that [Clinton] lied to the FBI.” However, Comey’s testimony could serve to fuel Republican accusations about Clinton’s email practices on several fronts. In a pointed exchange with Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., that’s already been seized upon by the Donald Trump campaign, Comey said several of Clinton’s public claims were not true. On Clinton’s claim that nothing she sent or received was marked classified, he said, “That’s not true. … There was classified material emailed.” Clinton had made that claim repeatedly in public, and also in swo testimony before the House Benghazi committee last October. On her claim that she used one device, he said, “She used multiple devices.” On her claim that she tued over all work-related emails, Comey said, “No, we found work-related emails, thousands that were not retued.” “It’s apparent that she lied to the American people,” Rep. Mark Meadows, R-N.C., later said of Clinton. Democrats on the committee tried to make the case for Clinton that she may not have noticed or understood the classified markings in a few emails that bore them, bolstering any claim of plausible deniability. Comey indeed said there is a question over whether Clinton was “sophisticated enough” to know at the time what a particular classified marking signified.  Fox News was first t, ...ادامه مطلب

  • DEVELOPING: FBI BOSS ADMITS HILLARY EMAIL CLAIMS 'NOT TRUE' GOP lawmakers grill FBI director on Clinton's 'no classified emails' denial

  •   FBI Director James Comey acknowledged Thursday that multiple public statements made by Hillary Clinton about her email use were not true, at a tense Capitol Hill hearing where he faced tough questions from GOP lawmakers over the bureau’s decision not to seek charges against the former secretary of state despite her mishandling of classified information. Comey made clear that, “We have no basis to conclude that [Clinton] lied to the FBI.” However, under questioning from Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., Comey said several of Clinton’s public claims were not true. On Clinton’s claim that nothing she sent or received was marked classified, he said, “That’s not true. … There was classified material emailed.” Clinton had made that claim repeatedly in public, and also in swo testimony before the House Benghazi committee last October. On her claim that she used one device, he said, “She used multiple devices.” On her claim that she tued over all work-related emails, he said, “No, we found work-related emails, thousands that were not retued.”  Gowdy and House Oversight Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, whose committee hosted the tense hearing with Comey just two days after the investigation decision, both suggested a “double standard” was at play. “It seems to a lot of us that the average Joe … if they had done what you laid out in your statement, that they’d be in handcuffs,” Chaffetz said. “And I think there is a legitimate conce that there is a double-standard -- if your name isn’t Clinton or you’re not part of the powerful elite, that lady justice will act differently.” Chaffetz voiced conce that there “does seem to be no consequence.”  “It’s apparent that she lied to the American people,” Rep. Mark Meadows, R-N.C., later said. Under questioning from Meadows, though, Comey said there is a question over whether Clinton was “sophisticated enough” to know at the time what a particular classified marking signified.  Yet Comey staunchly defended his agency’s handling , ...ادامه مطلب

  • JULY 4 FIREWORKS? Report: Clinton could face FBI grilling this weekend

  •   Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton could be interviewed by the FBI about her private email system while secretary of state as early as this weekend, according to a published report. The Daily Caller, citing a source close to the investigation, reported Friday that Clinton was scheduled to meet with the FBI Saturday. The source added that the talk could take place at Clinton's Washington D.C. residence.  Clinton has no campaign events scheduled over the July 4 holiday weekend, which could make such an interview easier to arrange.  Meanwhile, ABC News reported Friday that the Justice Department hopes to complete the investigation before the two major party conventions later this month. The Republican convention begins July 18 in Cleveland while the Democratic convention begins July 25 in Philadelphia. ABC also reported that investigators want ample time to review Clinton's interview and compare her statements to the facts it has gathered in the case. The FBI has previously interviewed several of Clinton's top aides, including her former Chief of Staff Cheryl Mills and former deputy Chief of Staff Huma Abedin. as part of their investigation into whether Clinton mishandled classified information that passed through her so-called "homebrew" server.  The reports emerged on the same day Attoey General Loretta Lynch said she regretted meeting former President Bill Clinton at the Phoenix airport this week, sparking criticism from both parties for creating an apparent conflict of interest.  2016 Election Headquarters The latest headlines on the 2016 elections from the biggest name in politics.
