  • TODD STARNES Valedictorians so scary that school may not honor them

  • (REUTERS/Brian Snyder) A public school district near Louisville, Kentucky has come down with a bad case of what I call “Participation Trophy Syndrome” – or PTS. The Greater Clark County School Board in Jeffersonville, Indiana, is considering a plan to eliminate the valedictorian system because it creates “unhealthy competition,” according to Supt. Andrew Melin. Click here to join Todd’s American Dispatch: a must-read for Conservatives! Unhealthy competition? Is he serious? Did a kid suffer a concussion while trying to parse a participle? “When students are competing for the Val and the Sal, they’re trying to find ways to maneuver through the system to try and get the best grades they can possibly get, as opposed to taking the course work that’s truly in their own best interest,” Supt. Melin told television station WHAS. For you folks living in a commune in Berkeley, the “Val” is the valedictorian and the “Sal” is the salutatorian. • COURTS' LEFT TURN Federal judge picks change legal landscape, ensure Obama's legacy

  •   President Obama may be struggling to tilt the balance of the Supreme Court – but that doesn’t mean he hasn’t already made his mark on the bench. The president, over the course of his two terms, has appointed hundreds of justices to the lower federal courts, leading to a majority of appeals courts now dominated by Democratic picks. While those nomination battles aren’t nearly as high-profile as they are for the high court, the impact of the appointments is just as pronounced.   “It's often overlooked, but nominees to the lower courts ... are often one of the most important legacies a president leaves behind,” said Elizabeth Wydra, president of the Constitutional Accountability Center. The Fourth Circuit, which sits just one level below the Supreme Court and is headquartered in Richmond, Va., is a prime example. Previously viewed as one of the most conservative appellate courts in the country, it has drifted significantly to the left, with Democratic appointees now, courtship, courts, courtesy, courts plus, courts va,courtside, courtside films, courtship definition, courtside grill, courtship of eddies father ...ادامه مطلب

  • 'ALT-RIGHT' EVOLUTION Conservative movement backs Trump campaign

  •   Hillary Clinton is set to launch a full-fledged attack Thursday on a newly evolving group that's embracing the Trump candidacy: the so-called "alt right." Her campaign describes the alt right as "embracing extremism and presenting a divisive and dystopian view of America which should conce all Americans, regardless of party." What is the alt right? In the words of  National Review's  Washington Editor Eliana Johnson,  like so many other creations of the digital age,  its, "an amorphous inteet movement." Its members are indistinguishable from other Trump supporters - mostly white, male, blue collar, rural or red state, and enthused about Trump’s immigration reform and his promise to bring jobs back to America. • DIM DAY FOR SOLAR: Nevada starts to pull the plug on power subsidies

  •   For years, Nevada taxpayers have spent millions subsidizing homeowners who install rooftop solar panels – but that’s about to end. In a controversial decision, the state is phasing out that subsidy over the next 12 years, a move being met with protests, lawsuits and even a failed bid to put the issue before voters. Last week, Nevada's Supreme Court ruled that a referendum from solar activists challenging the decision would not be allowed on the November ballot.  The changes and challenges are now being watched carefully by other states and the solar industry as a whole – as it could signal a shift away from govement support for solar energy. Until now, Nevada homeowners subsidized roughly 17,000 customers with solar panels, to the tune of about $16 million every year. This was done under a program known as net-metering, which reimbursed residential energy customers for excess power generated by their rooftop panels. Paul Thomsen, chairman of Nevada's Public Utility Com, ...ادامه مطلب
