  The relationship between Orlando terrorist Omar Mateen and an American suicide bomber in Syria was much “deeper” than previously understood by federal investigators, according to a govement source. Fox News was told the relationship as well as the Mateen case in general are "very complex" but would not go further, citing the sensitivity of the FBI investigation and classified information. The source said the bomber's retu to Florida in 2013 is under fresh scrutiny as well. Mateen’s name surfaced twice for FBI investigators in the run-up to the attack. After the first, full FBI investigation of Mateen concluded in March 2014, his name surfaced two months later in a second, separate FBI investigation of American suicide bomber Moner Abu-Salha -- who drove 16 tons of explosives into a Syrian govement facility on behalf of Al Qaeda-linked Nusra Front in late May of that year. The men had attended the same Easte Florida mosque.  At the time of the 2014 investigation, the FBI determined the association was minimal. FBI Director James Comey told reporters Monday a witness had identified Mateen to the FBI during their investigation of Abu-Salha and claimed Mateen was watching videos from the American cleric Anwar al-Awlaki, an Al Qaeda terrorist targeted for death by the CIA in 2011.   A woman who was found murdered last month in a Texas church received a "creepy and strange" message days before her death, according to a search warrant.  Terri "Missy" Bevers, 45, was found dead early on the moing of April 18 at the Creekside Church of Christ in Midlothian. She had gone there to prepare to lead an exercise class and her body was found by several of her students. Authorities said Bevers had suffered multiple puncture wounds to her head and chest.  Surveillance video showed an unidentified person wandering through the church in SWAT gear in the moments before the murder. According to an affidavit, Bevers had shown a friend a message that had been sent to her on LinkedIn, a business networking social media site. The document said that neither Bevers nor her friend knew the man who sent the message and both agreed that it was "creepy and strange." Police said Bevers' friend did not remember the name on the account that sent the message.  The affidavit also reveals that Bevers and her husband Brandon had been struggling with marital and financial problems. Police said Bevers had been receiving "flirtatious and familiar" LinkedIn messages from another man since January.  Police told FOX 4 the man messaging Missy has been cooperating with investigators and is not considered a suspect or a person of interest. The affidavit seeks access to Terri and Brandon Bevers' phone records, as well as those of seven other people. Police reportedly believe Bevers had been in contact with her assailant. The documents state it is possible that Bevers' killer had a cell phone on him or her, and may have used it to document the murder.  "I loved my wife," Brandon Bevers said in a statement Thursday. "My children will always know that as well. The children are my greatest conce right now given the information they will eventually receive in one form or another. This is conceing to all of us." Thousands of New Yorkers are being discreetly informed by NYPD detectives that their names have appeared on a list of “potential targets,” possibly compiled by terrorists, authorities confirmed to FoxNews.com. NYPD officials confirmed the existence of the list of more than 3,000 names, but did not elaborate on how it was formulated or the process of contacting subjects. A Brooklyn woman who told FoxNews.com she was approached by two plainclothes detectives Wednesday and said they told her that her name was on the list, referred to a notecard and advised her to watch for fraudulent charges on her credit cards and other irregular transactions, she said. Sources told FoxNews.com the NYPD was working with the FBI after the list was discovered, with the police doing the legwork. "While our standard practice is to decline comment on specific operational and investigative matters, the FBI routinely notifies individuals and organizations of information collected during the course of an investigation that may be perceived as potentially threatening in nature,” an FBI spokesperson said. “Potential threats may relate to individuals, institutions, or organizations, and are shared in order to sensitize potential victims to the observed threat, and to assist them in taking proper steps to ensure their safety.” The woman who spoke to FoxNews.com is not a govement worker or member of the military, and said she doesn’t know why her name would surface on a list.
