GAME OVER? Cops may boycott 49ers over Kaepernick protest

  •   Authorities in Northe Califoia have threatened to stop working San Francisco 49ers games in response to Colin Kaepeick sitting during the national anthem in protest of police brutality and racial injustice. In a letter obtained by KNTV, the Santa Clara police union told the 49ers organization that officers wouldn’t work at the stadium if it doesn’t “take action” against Kaepeick over his protest. The station noted that about 70 Santa Clara police officers work eight home games per year. "The board of directors of the Santa Clara Police Officer's Association has a duty to protect its members and work to make all of their workings environments free of harassing behavior,” the letter added. Kaepeick’s decision to sit for the national anthem and to wear socks in practice depicting pigs as cops has drawn much scrutiny from the Santa Clara officers. Police said they are angered and frustrated with the 6-year veteran. • MORE PLAYERS PROTEST Kap, teammate kneel during anthem, another sits

  •   Colin Kaepeick and San Francisco 49ers safety Eric Reid kneeled during the national anthem Thursday night, continuing the quarterback's preseason protest of American racial injustice and minority oppression. Kaepeick and Reid dropped to one knee while a naval officer sang "The Star-Spangled Banner" and dozens of military members unfurled an oversized flag at the Chargers' Qualcomm Stadium. Kaepeick and Reid received scattered boos when they dropped to a knee amid a crowd of teammates, but the protest was otherwise unremarked by the San Diego crowd. The 49ers' visit coincided with the annual Salute to the Military preseason game for the Chargers, who have strong fan support in their city's extensive armed forces community. Kaepeick got much heavier boos when he took the field to start the game for the 49ers and immediately led them on a 16-play, 85-yard touchdown drive. The veteran quarterback is attempting to regain the starting job that he lost last season, and he li, ...ادامه مطلب

  • BLM ‘DISAPPOINTED’ Slams Dems after memos reveal ‘pacifying’ tactics

  •   Black Lives Matter slammed the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee after a memo leaked late Wednesday seemed to show the group carefully coaching candidates on how to avoid angering the "radical" activists.  The November 2015 memo included tips like: Do not offer “support for concrete policy positions;” be sure to "lead from behind;" stick to "small" meetings; and avoid mentioning terms like "black-on-black crime."  On its Facebook page, BLM said officials should "stop pacifying" them.  “We are disappointed at the DCCC’s placating response to our demand to value all Black life. Black communities deserve to be heard, not handled. People are dying,” the organization said, in response to the leaked document.  The leaked files were posted along with other Democratic documents by Guccifer 2.0, a hacker of unknown origin who the U.S. says could be working out of Russia and is intent on disrupting the U.S. presidential election. • 'BIGGER THAN FOOTBALL' Kaepernick refuses to stand for anthem in protest

  •   San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepeick is refusing to stand for the national anthem before games because he believes the United States oppresses African Americans and other minorities. Kaepeick sat on the team's bench Friday night during the anthem before the Niners played host to the Green Bay Packers in an exhibition game. He later explained his reasoning in an interview with NFL Media . ''I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color,'' Kaepeick said. ''To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.'' The 49ers issued a statement after Pro Football Talk initially reported on Kaepeick's stand, saying that Americans have the right to protest or support the anthem. ''The national anthem is and always will be a special part of the pregame ceremony,'' the team , ...ادامه مطلب

  • TROUBLE IN PHILLY? Sanders supporters plan more protests at DNC

  •   PHILADELPHIA –  The Democrats’ convention kicking off Monday still faces the potential for rowdy protests from Beie Sanders delegates and supporters, despite the ouster of Democratic National Committee leader Debbie Wasserman Schultz serving as somewhat of a peace offering to liberal factions of the party that have accused her of tipping the scales for Hillary Clinton. Sanders supporters were angry over leaked emails that show the Florida congresswoman and her team blasting Sanders and discussing ways to undermine him. While her resignation could calm that storm, the liberal wing still appears intent on protesting over other grievances including Clinton, the party’s presumptive presidential nominee, picking Sen. Tim Kaine of Virginia as her running mate. Norman Solomon, a Sanders delegate from Califoia, said Sunday that Clinton picking a centrist like Kaine is an “assault” on the progressive agenda. He said the roughly 1,250 Sanders delegates connected to his Beie Delegates Network are considering walking out during the Virginia senator’s expected acceptance speech at the Wells Fargo Center, and they are even looking into contesting his nomination. He said their response “reflects anger and disappointment” over Clinton and like-minded Washington Democrats’ control over the party. “We don’t know exactly what to expect” on the convention floor, Solomon also said. 2016 Election Headquarters The latest headlines on the 2016 elections from the biggest name in politics. • CHAOTIC SCENES: At least 3 arrested in protests outside GOP convention

  • July 19, 2016: Protests outside Republican National Convention. (FoxNews.com) CLEVELAND –  Angry street protests created havoc Tuesday at the Republican National Convention, forcing the Secret Service to temporarily suspend transportation for lawmakers and other officials trying to get to and from events within the roughly 1.5-square-mile complex. Among the most chaotic scenes was a tense, midday standoff at an intersection close to where GOP congressmen and others do interviews at the TV networks’ makeshift studios -- halting traffic and sending nearly a hundred police officers to the scene.   The incident involved Trump and anti-Trump protesters, Black Lives Matter members and self-described anarchists. Police in riot gear and on bicycles diffused the situation by separating the groups before violence erupted. “There were a lot of crazy people, a lot of uniformed people,” said 18-year-old Sam Ditzhazy, a protester from Michigan who was holding a “Trump: Make America Great Again” banner.   There were unconfirmed reports later in the afteoon of protesters breaking storefront windows near that scene. 2016 Election Headquarters The latest headlines on the 2016 elections from the biggest name in politics. The demonstrators also include anti-govement and anti-Muslim groups. The crowds and the police presence were some of the largest and most raucous gatherings in downtown Cleveland since the convention got underway Monday. • NIGHT OF CHAOS: Minnesota police pelted with rocks, Molotov cocktails as protests lead to riots; 102 arrested

  •   More than 100 people were arrested and 21 police officers injured in Minnesota Saturday night when protests over recent police killings of black men morphed into rioting. St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman detailed at a Sunday press conference what he called an “extreme incident” Saturday night that led to 102 arrests after protesters pelted police officers with rocks, rebar and incendiary devices, including Molotov cocktails. The injuries to officers were “significant, but none were life-threatening,” Coleman said. The protests, which started with a march from the goveor's mansion around 8 p.m., were among several demonstrations nationwide following the deaths of 32-year-old Philando Castile, a black man who was shot in a Minneapolis suburb by a police officer during a traffic stop, and 37-year-old Alton Sterling in Baton Rouge, La. Sterling, who was black, was shot after a scuffle with officers outside a convenience store. The riots came just days after five Dallas police officers were murdered by Micah Johnson, who targeted white cops in a sniper attack last Thursday. Sterling's and Castile's families denounced the attack on the Dallas officers. In Minnesota, police used smoke bombs to clear demonstrators blocking Interstate 94. About 200 protesters refused to leave the roadway just after midnight as police in riot gear began to move in on the crowd. “We hope for the best and prepare for the worst and, unfortunately, last night the worst occurred,” St. Paul Police Chief Todd Axtell said at a Sunday press conference. Axtell passed around to reporters a police badge that was bent from the impact of a rock as he said he was “disgusted” by the acts of some people and added, “we’re not going to tolerate it.” “It’s the first time in my 28 years as a police officer that I have observed this level of violence toward our public servants,” Axtell said. “We’re hoping and praying that tonight is a better night.” Minnesota troopers tried to keep protesters from going on the , ...ادامه مطلب

  • CHANGE OF PLANS: Dallas sniper reportedly was readying larger attack before targeting police at protest

  •   Investigators believe the Dallas gunman who shot 14 people, including five murdered police officers, originally planned a much larger attack.  Dallas' WFAA-TV, citing a law enforcement source with knowledge of the investigation, reported that authorities think Micah Johnson changed his attack plan so the shootings would coincide with Thursday's protest against police brutality. "We think he was probably planning something bigger based on what we found at [Johnson's] house [in suburban Mesquite]", the source said "He had a bunch of explosive materials. He didn’t have the explosives created." Among those materials were metal pipes, as well as chemicals that could be used to create pipe bombs. It was not immediately clear whether Johnson had any specific targets in mind for a larger attack. The source added that Johnson "literally had hundreds and hundreds of rounds in magazines attached to his body [Thursday] so it wasn’t like he was running out of ammunition ... His plan was to kill as many as he could." Dallas police Chief David Brown said Friday that authorities found bomb-making materials, rifles, ammunition and a "personal joual of combat tactics." Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings described Johnson, believed to be the only gunman in Thursday's attack, as "a mobile shooter" who had written manifestos on how to "shoot and move — and he did that." On Saturday, the Associated Press reported that Johnson, an Army veteran who served a truncated tour in Afghanistan, received training from a private self-defense school that teaches firearm tactics, including "shooting on the move." A person who said he was in charge of the organization told AP that Johnson received instruction at the Academy of Combative Warrior Arts in the Dallas suburb of Richardson about two years ago. The man refused to answer additional questions and would not give his name.  The academy website refers to one of its courses as a "tactical applications program," or TAP.
