LAST-MINUTE CHANGE Trump revised speech after Mexican leader's tweet

  •   As Donald Trump arrived in Phoenix late Wednesday, fresh from a visit to Mexico City’s presidential palace, he had in his hands a big immigration speech that omitted the usual line that Mexico would have to pay for his proposed wall along the U.S. southe border. Just after landing, though, Mr. Trump discovered that Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto had tweeted that he had told the Republican presidential nominee during their private meeting earlier that day that his country would refuse to pay for the wall. Mr. Trump was peeved that Mr. Peña Nieto had gone public with the fact that the Mexican president had broken what Mr. Trump considered a deal to keep the question of paying for the wall off the table at their initial meeting. So Mr. Trump hurriedly inserted a new sentence in his immigration speech, and he soon boomed out from the podium his traditional declaration that the wall would be paid for by Mexico—adding, “They don’t know it yet but they’re g,last minute change, last minute changes synonym, last minute change flight, last minute change booking, last minute change flight date, last minute change of plans, last minute changes quotes, last minute change name, last minute change currency, last minute changes to a will ...ادامه مطلب

  • BLM ‘DISAPPOINTED’ Slams Dems after memos reveal ‘pacifying’ tactics

  •   Black Lives Matter slammed the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee after a memo leaked late Wednesday seemed to show the group carefully coaching candidates on how to avoid angering the "radical" activists.  The November 2015 memo included tips like: Do not offer “support for concrete policy positions;” be sure to "lead from behind;" stick to "small" meetings; and avoid mentioning terms like "black-on-black crime."  On its Facebook page, BLM said officials should "stop pacifying" them.  “We are disappointed at the DCCC’s placating response to our demand to value all Black life. Black communities deserve to be heard, not handled. People are dying,” the organization said, in response to the leaked document.  The leaked files were posted along with other Democratic documents by Guccifer 2.0, a hacker of unknown origin who the U.S. says could be working out of Russia and is intent on disrupting the U.S. presidential election. • TOP ISIS LEADER KILLED Terror group's Sinai head hit in strike, sources say

  • Nov. 1, 2015: Military investigators from Russia stand near the debris of a Russian airliner at the site of its crash at the Hassana area in Arish city, northe Egypt. (Reuters) DEVELOPING: The leader of the Islamic State’s operations in the volatile Sinai Peninsula and mastermind of the October 2015 attack on a Russian airliner in the region that left 224 dead has been killed by Egypt’s air force, intelligence sources told Fox News Thursday. ISIS Sinai leader Abu Dua al-Ansari was killed in Al Arish, the sources said. A post on the Facebook page of the military's chief spokesman, Brig-Gen Mohammed Samir, said al-Ansari was killed in an operation guided by "accurate intelligence." He helped organize ISIS activities in the region including attacks against U.N. personnel in their Sinai base, investigators said. [embedded content] In the Metrojet plane attack on October 31, an air mechanic whose cousin joined ISIS in Syria is suspected to have planted a bomb on the Russian passenger plane at the Sharm el-Sheikh airport. The plane then exploded in Egypt’s skies after takeoff, killing all 224 aboard. Egypt’s military wrote on its Facebook page that its airstrikes also killed 45 ISIS fighters and ammunition depots used by the group, Reuters reported. Egyptian forces have been battling Islamic militants in Sinai for years but the insurgency there has grown deadlier since the 2013 ouster by the military of the country's Islamist president. • MERKEL IN TROUBLE? Terror-weary Germans turn on leader over refugees

  •   Five violent terror-related attacks in a two-week span are prompting Germans to tu on longtime Chancellor Angela Merkel, who has continued to embrace a liberal refugee policy some say has compromised safety. Although Germany has so far been spared the kind of atrocities that shook Brussels, Paris and Nice in the last year, there have been 15 deaths and dozens injured in attacks in Germany since July 18. Two of the attacks have been linked to ISIS, and many suspect the others bore hallmarks of terrorism. Politicians from both the left and the right have assailed the once-enormously popular chancellor’s plan to integrate more than a million refugees from war zones in the Middle East and Afghanistan. The sharpest criticism comes from Bavaria, which has been the entry point for most of the refugees. Leaders of the Christian Social Union (CSU), the Bavaria-based sister party of Merkel’s Christian Democratic Union (CDU) are demanding tighter border controls and an annual upper limit on the number of migrants.   The left-wing opposition party, Die Linke, has also voiced criticism. Its co-leader, Sahra Wagenknecht, as quoted by Germany’s inteational broadcaster Deutsche Welle, said the violence shows that the task of integrating the huge number of refugees “is harder than Merkel with her frivolous ‘we can do it’ slogan of last autumn would have us believe.” Merkel’s govement denies that the terrorist attacks reveal flaws in the immigration program that began a year ago, in August 2015. But most Germans do not share Merkel’s optimism. A recent survey conducted July 26-29 by the pollster You Gov finds that only a little more than a quarter of the 1,017 persons polled have confidence in Merkel’s promise. The number of people who share Merkel’s optimism is the lowest it has been since the influx began. Another poll, conducted in April and May, finds that 73 percent of Germans fear terrorism. • ANTI-TRUMP PLAN FAILS GOP leaders kill effort to unbind delegates' votes

  •   A committee at the Republican National Convention defeated the effort by anti-Donald Trump conservatives to derail the presumptive GOP nominee’s drive to secure the party’s nomination, voting late Thursday to rebuff their plans to let delegates vote for any candidate they’d like. Party officials used a voice vote to reject a proposal by Colorado delegate Kendal Unruh to let delegates “cast a vote of conscience” and abandon the candidate they had been committed too through the state primaries or caucuses. The amendment became a focal point of furious lobbying that’s pitted the so-called Never Trump movement against Trump’s campaign and top leaders of the Republican Party. On a 112-member rules panel dominated by party and Trump loyalists, the outcome was expected. Unruh expected to collect signatures from 28 members to bring a vote to unbind the delegates on the convention floor in Cleveland next week. However, she was only able to collect 21. She encountered overwhelming opposition from delegates arguing that it would be unthinkable for the party to abandon Trump after he overwhelmingly won GOP primaries and caucuses and gaered more than 13 million votes. "You want to ignore what is really the grassroots, which is millions and millions and millions of voters who voted for Donald Trump," said Stephen Munisteri, a delegate and leading GOP figure from Texas. 2016 Election Headquarters The latest headlines on the 2016 elections from the biggest name in politics. For good measure, the rules panel also approved language specifically stating that party rules allow delegates to be "bound" to candidates. • Navy probe finds weak leadership, lack of 'warfighting toughness' led to capture of 10 US sailors by Iranians

  •   The Navy's top officer said Thursday the performance of 10 of his sailors leading up to and following their capture by Iranian forces in January did not meet the high standards expected of them, as he announced the long-awaited findings of a Navy investigation. "Those sailors clearly know our actions on that day in January, and this incident did not live up to our expectations of our Navy," Admiral John Richardson told reporters. Related Image Expand / Contract This picture released by the Iranian state-run IRIB News Agency shows the detention of U.S. Navy sailors in January. (Sepahnews via AP) One of Richardson's top deputies said some of the sailors violated the longstanding "code of conduct" that requires all service members to "make no oral or written statements disloyal to my country," among its six articles. According to the report, some of the Navy sailors gave up their passwords to their laptops, cellphones and sensitive data about their ships to their Iranian captors. "The investigation also found that some crew members did not meet code of conduct standards while in custody," Vice Admiral Chris Aquilino, Deputy for Operations, Plans and Strategy, said. Aquilino added that the rules of engagement dealing with Iranian forces in the Persian Gulf "may not have been understood by the crews." [embedded content] Among the findings of the investigation: The crews failed to report they were off track after beginning their transit from Kuwait to Bahrain four hours behind schedule. To make up the time, the two Navy patrol boats decided to take a shortcut, taking them inside Iranian territorial waters near Farsi Island, centrally located in the Persian Gulf. Richardson said that Iran violated inteational law in its treatment of his sailors by taking them at gunpoint. "The investigation concluded that Iran violated inteational law by impeding the boats' innocent passage transit, and they violated sovereign immunity by boarding, searching and seizing the, ...ادامه مطلب

  • POLITICAL CHAOS HITS BRITAIN Labor Party leader fights 'coup' try, Scotland may attempt blocking Brexit

  •   LONDON –  Britain's shocking decision to remove itself from the European Union brought more political turmoil Sunday as Scotland's leader threatened to block the move and the opposition Labor Party's leader faced a coup attempt from his own legislators. The sense of unease spread as European leaders stepped up the pressure on Britain to begin its complex exit from the 28-nation EU immediately, rather than wait several months as British Prime Minister David Cameron prefers. The vote to leave sent the pound and global stock markets plunging. Britain's Treasury said finance minister George Osboe would make an early moing statement Monday "to provide reassurance about financial and economic stability" before the London Stock Exchange reopens. The leaders of the successful campaign to leave the EU stayed largely out of the public eye, as opponents accused them of lacking a plan to calm the crisis the result has triggered. In his first statement since Friday moing, "leave" leader and former London Mayor Boris Johnson used his column in the Daily Telegraph newspaper to urge unity and say "the negative consequences (of the vote) are being wildly overdone." He said Britain would forge "a new and better relationship with the EU — based on free trade and partnership, rather than a federal system." The vote, however, risks causing a political schism in the United Kingdom. Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said she would "consider" advising the Scottish Parliament to try to use its power to prevent Britain from actually leaving the EU. She said Scottish lawmakers might be able to derail the move by withholding "legislative consent" for a British exit, or Brexit. [embedded content] "If the Scottish Parliament was judging this on the basis of what's right for Scotland, then the option of saying 'We're not going to vote for something that is against Scotland's interests,' of course, that is on the table," she said of the possibility of withholding consent. • LEARNING FROM MISTAKES? Clinton says 'experienced' leader needed to avoid upcoming troubles Britain faces

  •   The presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton on Sunday spoke for the first time publicly about Britain’s vote to exit the European Union and took a jab at the presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump in the process. Without mentioning him by name, Clinton, speaking at the annual gathering of the U.S. Conference of Mayors in Indianapolis, said “steady experienced leadership” is what the U.S. needs to avoid the kinds of troubles Britain now faces. "We need leaders ... who understand how to work with other leaders to manage risks, who understand that bombastic comments in turbulent times can actually cause more turbulence and who put the interest of the American people ahead of their personal business interests," Clinton said. Clinton called the vote for Britain to leave the 28-member bloc a sobering reminder that “what happens around the world has consequences that can hit home quickly.” "Our priority now must be to protect American families and businesses from the negative effects of this kind of tumult and uncertainty," she added. Clinton was piling onto Trump after her campaign accused Trump of caring more about how Britain’s decision to leave the EU would benefit his bottom line more than how it would affect the U.S. economy. 2016 Election Headquarters The latest headlines on the 2016 elections from the biggest name in politics. See Latest Coverage → Clinton campaign manager Robby Mook said Trump’s reaction showed that he’s not a good fit to serve as president, despite acknowledging the parallels between the anti-establishment movement that sparked the Brexit vote and Trump’s rise. • GUN CONTROL STANDOFF: GOP leaders resist immense pressure for vote despite Dems' hours-long sit-in

  •   Democrat leaders attempted to force a vote on gun control legislation by carrying out an hours-long sit-in on the House floor, but Republican leaders ignored the calls and the chants and carried on with legislative business late Wednesday into early Thursday. The House adjoued around 3:15 a.m. ET Thursday, and even as Republicans left the buildings, Democrats stayed on the House floor repeating their chant “No bill no break!” and waving papers with the names of gun victims written in black. Rep. Maxine Waters of Califoia said she was ready to stay “until Hell freezes over.” As the sit-in extended into the early dawn, Democrats began to wind down the protest. However, a core group still lingered on the House floor wrapped in blankets and resting on pillows. A crowd cheered them on from outside the Capitol and many more following the theatrics on social media. Democrats declared success in dramatizing the arguments for action to stem gun violence, despite the failure to conjure a vote. "Just because they cut and run in the dark of night, just because they have left doesn't mean we are taking no for an answer," said House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi. "We won't stop until the job is done," the Califoian declared to fellow Democrats camped out in the well of the House in the early hours of the moing, saying the party had changed "the dynamic of what happens" conceing guns. House Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer of Maryland said the public shouldn't be happy with a Republican majority that shut down the House and disregarded "the unfinished business of the American people." Georgia Rep. John Lewis, who had participated in the civil rights sit-ins in the South in the 1960s, declared Thursday that “some progress” was made in the lawmakers’ efforts to get the attention of the nation to recognize the need for a vote on gun control legislation. “We have other bridges to cross. And when we come back in July, we start it all over again,” he added. With pressure mounting, Repu, ...ادامه مطلب
