BLM ‘DISAPPOINTED’ Slams Dems after memos reveal ‘pacifying’ tactics

  •   Black Lives Matter slammed the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee after a memo leaked late Wednesday seemed to show the group carefully coaching candidates on how to avoid angering the "radical" activists.  The November 2015 memo included tips like: Do not offer “support for concrete policy positions;” be sure to "lead from behind;" stick to "small" meetings; and avoid mentioning terms like "black-on-black crime."  On its Facebook page, BLM said officials should "stop pacifying" them.  “We are disappointed at the DCCC’s placating response to our demand to value all Black life. Black communities deserve to be heard, not handled. People are dying,” the organization said, in response to the leaked document.  The leaked files were posted along with other Democratic documents by Guccifer 2.0, a hacker of unknown origin who the U.S. says could be working out of Russia and is intent on disrupting the U.S. presidential election. (Reuters) President Obama, with the stroke of a pen, created the world's largest ocean reserve on Friday off Hawaii, days after designating a massive federal monument in Maine – moves that have angered local lawmakers who accuse the president of disregarding the impact on residents.  Obama used a presidential proclamation to expand the Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument off the coast of Hawaii by over 400,000 square miles. • TOE-TO-TOE ON THE ECONOMY Clinton, Trump push controversies aside to trade jabs on jobs & taxes

  •   The 2016 presidential rivals set aside their latest campaign controversies Thursday to trade jabs on jobs, taxes and the economy -- with Donald Trump casting Hillary Clinton as bad for the housing industry and the Democratic nominee accusing her opponent of offering "no credible plans" for working Americans.  Clinton also tried to out-tough Trump on trade, vowing to beef up enforcement on trade rules and punish countries that violate them.  "Mr. Trump may talk a big game on trade, but his approach is based on fear, not strength," Clinton said in Michigan. "If Team USA was as fearful as Trump, Michael Phelps and Simone Biles would be cowering in the locker room, afraid to come out to compete."  Trump delivered an economic speech of his own earlier this week in Michigan. On Thursday, he also spoke to the National Association of Home Builders in Miami Beach, Fla., and decried the Obama administration’s increase in regulations on building properties. “In the last five year, toe toe the line ...ادامه مطلب

  • TRUMP UNVEILS JOBS 'JUMPSTART' Vows to slash taxes, do away with 'anti-energy' regs; blames Detroit's collapse on 'Obama-Clinton agenda'

  •   Donald Trump vowed Monday to "jumpstart" the U.S. economy by cutting taxes and regulation and unshackling the American energy industry -- as he touted an economic plan he called a "night-and-day-contrast" with the “job-killing, tax-raising, poverty-inducing Obama-Clinton agenda.”  “We have begun a conversation about the great economic recovery of America,” Trump said in Detroit, which he described as a once-thriving industrial city destroyed by failed Democratic Party policies. He used the address to not only unveil a new version of his economic plan but draw a stark contrast with rival Hillary Clinton's approach.  “Detroit is a living, breathing example of my opponent’s failed economic policies,” said Trump, arguing bad inteational trade deals like NAFTA have resulted in record unemployment for the city and made a “total disaster” of the entire U.S. economy. “Detroit is still waiting for Hillary Clinton’s apology,” he continued. In a speech received with subdued applause and repeatedly interrupted by protesters, Trump vowed to create 500,000 jobs annually in the first seven years of his administration, while cutting business taxes and reducing federal regulations -- with hopes of resetting his presidential campaign in the process. • SENATOR HILLARY A JOBS LOSER? Clinton economic schemes reportedly fell flat — while big donors cashed in

  •   Hillary Clinton’s jobs record as a New York senator – which her campaign has made a centerpiece of her pitch to voters – is coming under fresh scrutiny, with a new report claiming her economic initiatives fell flat for workers, while benefiting deep-pocketed donors. The Washington Post report found that, as a senator from 2001-2009, the now-Democratic presidential nominee was unable to pass “big ticket legislation” that she introduced to benefit upstate New York, as job growth stagnated and manufacturing jobs fell by almost 25 percent. The Post cites U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics numbers showing upstate New York lost jobs during Clinton’s first term, with Albany losing more than 31,000 payroll jobs between October 2001 and December 2006. Former officials told the Post that smaller-scale projects also fell flat despite positive news coverage, with jobs failing to materialize and others leaving the state ahead of her failed 2008 presidential run.  Republican rival Donald Trump seized on the report Monday, citing the “devastating” findings as he delivered an economic address in Detroit. “She was all talk, no action,” he said.  2016 Election Headquarters The latest headlines on the 2016 elections from the biggest name in politics. Her campaign has cited her work in New York as a blueprint for her presidency, and has used her record to try and neutralize Trump’s selling point that he has a record as a job creator and knows how to boost the economy. Further, the Post notes that a number of the companies Clinton worked with in upstate New York also contributed to her campaign and the Clinton Foundation – the Clintons' charitable wing that has come under scrutiny for its financial dealings amid accusations of “pay-to-play.” [embedded content] Poll: Clinton vs. Trump on job creation | InsideGov In the Senate, for i, ...ادامه مطلب

  • COAL JOBS KNOCKOUT? Company blames Obama policy for huge layoffs

  • FILE 2014: Coal mining boots are shown above miners’ lockers before the start of an afteoon shift near Gilbert, West Virginia. (Reuters) Murray Energy Corp., the largest privately held coal miner in the U.S., has waed that it may soon undertake one of the biggest layoffs in the sector during this time of low energy prices. In a notice sent to workers this week, Murray said it could lay off as many as 4,400 employees, or about 80% of its workforce, because of weak coal markets. The company said it anticipates “massive workforce reductions in September.” The law requires a 60-day waiting period before large layoffs occur. • 'RIPPING JOBS APART' Trump bashes trade deals amid Commerce feud

  •   Donald Trump, in an interview with Fox News, doubled down on his criticism of U.S. trade policies while making clear he's not backing down from a simmering feud with the Chamber of Commerce over the issue.  “The trade deals are ripping our jobs apart,” Trump told Fox News on Wednesday. As for the chamber, he said the group is “totally controlled by the special interest groups.”  Trump and the Chamber of Commerce have been trading shots all week, underscoring a divide in the Republican Party on the trade issue. The chamber, a traditionally friendly group for mainstream GOP candidates, went after Trump hard on Tuesday over proposals the group said would cost jobs and hurt the economy.  Under Trump's trade plans, we would see higher prices, fewer jobs, and a weaker economy https://t.co/3xcCNgiS2k pic.twitter.com/9jPtGXAOlQ — U.S. Chamber (@USChamber) June 28, 2016 Trump, though, reiterated Wednesday he believes new trade deals should be negotiated because foreign countries are taking advantage of the United States. “I’ve got it, I understand it, you see the crowds I am getting, nobody has crowds like we have,” Trump told Fox News. “And it’s about, really, I think in this case trade.”  Trump initially went after the chamber on Tuesday during a rally in Bangor, Maine. The New York real estate developer accused the organization of being a special interest that only “wants to have the deals that they want to have.” 2016 Election Headquarters The latest headlines on the 2016 elections from the biggest name in politics. • GUN JOBS SOARING Report: Industry sees 73 percent spike under Obama

  •   The gun industry has boomed over the past eight years resulting in a massive increase in gun-related jobs throughout the country. The number of full-time jobs in the firearms industry increased from about 166,000 in 2008 to nearly 288,000, according to a new report from the National Shooting Sports Foundation, or NSSF. That represents a 73 percent increase. In 2015 alone, the gun industry went from 263,223 jobs to 287,986, an increase of nearly 25,000 jobs. The NSSF estimates that the gun industry currently has a total economic impact of nearly $50 billion. That’s up 158 percent from $19.1 billion in 2008. Wages in the industry rose 126 percent over the same time period. The average industry worker now receives $50,180 between wages and benefits. The gun industry has also generated record amounts of tax revenue for both the federal govement and state govements in the past eight years. In 2015, the federal govement collected $3.7 billion in tax revenue, an increase of 144 percent since 2008. State govements saw nearly double the tax revenue over the same period. • STEALING BUSINESS Fla.'s gov makes no secret he wants Connecticut jobs

  • FILE: Feb, 24, 2014: Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy, Democrat, at the White House, Washington, D.C. (REUTERS) Connecticut’s chronic budget problems and notorious tax increases have made the state a prime target for Florida GOP Gov. Rick Scott and others trying to lure away corporations and other job-creators. Scott recently offered Yale University a chance to relocate after Connecticut’s Democrat-controlled General Assembly proposed taxing the school’s $25.6 billion endowment to cut a budget deficit. And last summer, he traveled to Connecticut to try to lure businesses -- after Aetna, General Electric and Travelers publicly griped about millions in proposed taxes increases that Gov. Dan Malloy and fellow Democrats in the state legislature wanted in an upcoming budget. Not surprisingly, considering Yale's 300-year history with the city of New Haven, the Ivy League bastion last week politely declined Scott's offer. Still, General Electric earlier this year took a better offer from Boston to move its headquarters and its 800 jobs to the city’s revived Seaport District -- a devastating economic hit to its current home in affluent Fairfield County -- even after Malloy hastily signed a revised budget proposal that cut roughly $179 million from $1.5 billion in proposed tax increases in the original two-year budget.  But Connecticut’s persistent budget problems continue to make it a target for pro-business goveors like Scott. The state Assembly last week had to close a projected $220 million budget shortfall with a host of one-time, stop-gap measures. And similar budget deficits are projected for the new budget that begins in July. Scott said Monday he intends to continue going to states whose policies “have an adverse impact on businesses,” with an eye now on Pennsylvania. “You have to go talk to people,” Scott, a former businessman, told FoxNews.com. “This is no different than when I ran a big company… The answer was always ‘no’ before I called.” Scott, who was raised, ...ادامه مطلب
