BLM ‘DISAPPOINTED’ Slams Dems after memos reveal ‘pacifying’ tactics

  •   Black Lives Matter slammed the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee after a memo leaked late Wednesday seemed to show the group carefully coaching candidates on how to avoid angering the "radical" activists.  The November 2015 memo included tips like: Do not offer “support for concrete policy positions;” be sure to "lead from behind;" stick to "small" meetings; and avoid mentioning terms like "black-on-black crime."  On its Facebook page, BLM said officials should "stop pacifying" them.  “We are disappointed at the DCCC’s placating response to our demand to value all Black life. Black communities deserve to be heard, not handled. People are dying,” the organization said, in response to the leaked document.  The leaked files were posted along with other Democratic documents by Guccifer 2.0, a hacker of unknown origin who the U.S. says could be working out of Russia and is intent on disrupting the U.S. presidential election. • POWER STRUGGLE:Turkey demands US hand over Pennsylvania-based cleric blamed for failed military coup

  • Turkish Islamic preacher Fethullah Gulen, pictured at his residence in Saylorsburg, Pa., is charged in Turkey with plotting to overthrow the govement. (AP) Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called on the U.S. Saturday to extradite a Muslim cleric living in Pennsylvania following a failed military coup. In a televised speech, Erdogan said Turkey had never refused any request by the U.S. to extradite “terrorists” and invoked Washington and Ankara's relationship as "strategic partners" in an effort to force the retu of Fethullah Gulen. U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said Saturday the Obama administration would entertain an extradition request but Turkey would have to prove wrongdoing by Gulen. Gulen denied knowledge of the coup to reporters at his Pennsylvania compound Saturday. The cleric said that he knows only a "minute fraction" of his legions of sympathizers in Turkey, so he cannot speak to their "potential involvement" in the takeover attempt.  "You can think about many motivations of people who staged this coup. They could be sympathizers of the opposition party. They could be sympathizers of the nationalist party. It could be anything," Gulen, who has lived in the U.S. for more than 15 years, said through an interpreter. The frail-looking Gulen, in his mid-70s, said he wouldn't have retued to Turkey even if the coup had succeeded, fearing he would be "persecuted and harassed." "This is a tranquil and clean place and I enjoy and I live my freedom here," he said. "Longing for my homeland bus in my heart, but freedom is also equally important." Erdogan and Gulen, former political allies, have fallen out in recent years over Erdogan’s years-long crackdown on domestic dissent and Turkey’s once-open media landscape. Given the chance Saturday to deliver a message to Erdogan, Gulen demurred. "If I were to send him a message, he would probably consider it as a slur and reject it," Gulen said, adding, "but I have always prayed for myself and for him. I have , ...ادامه مطلب

  • STOP THE DEMANDS New Mizzou boss sends protesters tough message

  •   The man hired to help ease racial tensions at University of Missouri had tough love for the African-American activists who led fierce demonstrations there last fall, telling them late last week he has no intention of caving in to their demands. Interim Vice Chancellor Chuck Henson, whose portfolio includes inclusion, diversity and equity, wrote a letter to Conceed Student 1950 Thursday, telling the group to stop making demands and work with the school to make things better. "If you sincerely want better relationships, the time for demands, threats and arbitrary deadlines is over — you don't need them," Henson wrote. Demands from the group, which takes its name from the 1950 admission of the school’s first black student, Gus Ridgel, include an “academic bankruptcy program” in which students could delete one bad semester’s grades from their records, according to The College Fix. Other demands include the hiring of more black faculty, $250,000 to expand the Black Cultural Center with a “Liberation House,” and a statue of civil rights activist Lloyd Gaines in the Caahan Quadrangle. ((Associated Press)) Henson invited group members to meet him, but said many of the demands are neither realistic nor legal. Hiring faculty or staff or admitting minority students to meet quotas could violate state and federal law, he said. "There are things, like hiring faculty or staff, or admitting students based on protected characteristics to meet a numerical target, will not and cannot be done," Henson wrote. "It is against state and federal law. It also is a bad model for a sustainable community." UM System Interim President Mike Middleton echoed Henson's language in an emailed response to the revised demands. "The time for demands has passed," he told the Missourian, the school’s newspaper.. • DOUBLING DOWN: Trump threatens to file suit against Cruz, demands RNC intervene on two fronts

  •   Donald Trump dramatically escalated his feud with rival Ted Cruz on Monday, threatening to sue the Texas senator over his eligibility for office if he does not retract alleged “lies” about Trump’s positions – and calling on the Republican National Committee to intervene on two fronts. The billionaire businessman wants the RNC to pressure Cruz, and also stop allowing so many donors at the debates. If the RNC does not “get its act together,” Trump waed, they would be violating the “pledge” he signed to support the eventual GOP nominee. While dragging the RNC into the fray, Trump’s already-nasty and personal feud with Cruz was hitting an unprecedented level. At a press conference and in a written statement, Trump demanded Cruz apologize for allegedly false statements about him – or he’ll follow through on threats to challenge in court the Canada-bo senator’s eligibility to run. “He doesn’t even have the right to serve as president, or even run as president. He was bo in Canada. So I will bring that lawsuit if he doesn’t apologize,” Trump told reporters at a press conference. Simultaneously, his campaign issued a statement detailing Cruz’s allegedly false statements about his positions on abortion, ObamaCare and more. “If he doesn’t take down his false ads and retract his lies, I will [file suit] immediately. Additionally, the RNC should intervene and if they don’t, they are in default of their pledge to me,” Trump said in the statement. The threats come as Cruz has questioned Trump’s positions on abortion, gun rights and other issues. In one new ad, the Cruz campaign was conservatives are "just one Supreme Court justice away" from losing on issues that are important to them. Those issues, the ad says, include "life, marriage, religious liberty, the Second Amendment." It suggests Trump would nominate more liberal justices. Cruz, though, is standing by his statements. “Truth matters. You cannot simply scream liar when somebody points out the actual position of Don, ...ادامه مطلب
